Spitfire Symphony Orchestra Discover – Redux

If you read my previous post about the issues I was having regarding being able to use the Spitfire Symphony Orchestra Discover Edition from Spitfire Audio, you will know of the untold difficulties I encountered trying to use Native Access to install this. Amazingly I have finally managed to get Native Access to work long enough to add the serial number of the SSO Discover edition and install it.

I have played around with a little and have really enjoyed the experience. There are some limitations, but that is to be expected from the free version of the software.

It appears to have quite a few ensemble patches mixing instruments into beautiful warm sounds, but not so much granular control over individual instruments.

There are a few articulations to explore controlled by key switches. It appears as though many of the articulations only provide a single demo note. I expect that this is not the case in the full versions.
Some of my favorite sounds and instruments are the Bass clarinet which has a beautiful sound, as do the flute and piccolo flute.

Overall, there are some fantastic sounds, and I can see myself making a lot of use of this software and especially the ensemble sounds.

I experimented with it a little bit using it to orchestrate a sketch I was playing with and the sounds generated were great.

It is very nice to have this now as an alternative / addition to the BBC Symphony Orchestra, also from Spitfire.

That means that I will be able to look at the ThinkSpace Education mini course ‘Introduction to Writing for Orchestra with Spitfire Symphony Orchestra Discover’. I am excited that I will be able to take this opportunity as I really enjoy their courses.
