It is now the time for the major scoring project of module 4 in the Mastering Orchestral Composition with Spitfire Audio course from ThinkSpace Education.
So, what is the nature of this scoring project?
We have been looking at telling stories in music and how to evoke different emotional feelings and moods.
The emotions/moods that we have looked at, and their transitions, have been
- Sad to Uplifting
- Suspense to Action
- Anticipation to Disappointment
There have also been challenges involving writing small sections to show
- Uplifting moods
- Creating Suspense
I have posted my attempt at both for your considered opinions.
Now it is time for the major scoring project of the module, titled Let’s Tell a Story.
What do the instructions consist of?
There are four story ideas and the goal is to digest those ideas and compose a 2-minute piece of music that brings that story to life, shaping the music to fit the narrative.
The story ideas are (well, the titles at least)
- Fantasy Adventure: The Last Feather
- Psychological Horror: The Mirror Room
- Historical Fiction: The Clockmakers Son
- Magical Realism: Paper Wings
I think that this will be a very interesting project, but very challenging too.
Once I decide upon one of the story options and begin to plot it out, I will post on my plans and progress.
