Cubase 15 Upgrade

I was looking at the Cubase 15 upgrade from Cubase 14 the other day and decided that I would get that and install it.

Sometimes these upgrades do not really introduce much in the way of meaningful improvement, but I was pleasantly surprised. It appears that this is one of Steinberg’s most substantial updates in many years.

This release is focused on creativity and speed and following the install I was very happy with its performance and the interface enhancements, in fact in Steinberg’s own words, Cubase 15 is “all about evolution and inspiration,” focused on musicality, expression, and a smoother creative flow.

So what are some of the main highlights of this release.

  • Hub Redesign: A More Guided, Modern Starting Point
  • Stem Separation: AI‑Powered Audio Deconstruction
  • Pattern Editor with Melodic Mode
  • Six New Modulators for Sound Design

I have certainly not checked out all of these features yet, and the extent of the new features means that I am sure it will be a good while. However, I have tried out a few of the new features and I am wholly impressed.

The new interface is clean and modern looking, and much more streamlined in enabling access to projects and files than ever before.

The pattern editor is no longer only for drums, but has learned melody. It now allows the creation of melodic sequences, both monophonic and polyphonic.

The thing that has excited me the most with this release is the power of the Yamaha omnivocal vst instrument. Since I am not a singer it is fascinating to me to be able to add a vocal line as midi notes, adding lyrics to each note, and it actually sounds pretty good. It also allows me to create a vocal line that is indicative rather than merely a placeholder melody line.

A massive thumbs up to this new release. I am very impressed and really enjoying exploring all of the new features, including the ones I did not mention such as the six additional modulators enabling even more creative sound design. Well, I guess I have mentioned it now.
