So, a couple of questions there.
As to the first, my name is Julian and I have been playing the guitar for over forty years. I will include more personal details about my journey thus far at a later date, but for now let’s just look at why I am writing this blog and what I hope to achieve.
I have always wanted to understand more about classical music, music theory, and those crazy hieroglyphs that you see in manuscripts. I recently decided to embark upon a journey of discovery along this path of greater knowledge. One always hears the phrase ‘you are too old to learn that’, whatever it may be. I believe you are never too old to learn anything, and I want to bring people along on my journey. A journey is better when shared.
So, once I had made this decision, I followed my usual modus operandi and started to purchase things that I thought I might need, including many books. I both read a lot and plan a lot. This can sometimes be my downfall, yet other times my saving grace. I like foundations, and I like to have everything I think I need before I start. I often fall into the trap of planning/learning more than doing.
I shall include some lists later, of books that I acquired, instruments, hardware, software, and courses I purchased, all as a means of learning and moving forward. Now I need to get to using them.
My intention here is to plot the course my journey takes as I progress (hopefully, at least), and I shall include achievements, goals, tutorials, music, reviews, whatever supports that journey. There will no doubt also be some disjointed rambling monologues, and maybe even some tears. Well, as the tagline of this blog reads, ‘Even Composers Cry Sometimes’, even the fledging ones.
Please join me on this journey and let us see where we can go together.
