The purpose of this exercise from the Mastering Orchestral Composition with the BBCSO course from ThinkSpace Education was to take a given starting point and continue developing it to create a piece of uplifting music.
I wrote about the harmonic structure that I was using in a previous post so I will just recap that here but not go into details. The original part provided had the following structure
Asus4 | Asus4 | D E/D | D E/D | D E/D D E/D | D E/D D E/D | F G/F | F G/F |
And the part that I added consisted of
C G/B | Am G | F C/E | Dm G | C G/B | Am G | F G | C |
I mainly used strings for the harmony and with the melody in the woodwinds. There are a few countermelodies and answering phrases in the brass, and a tiny bit of percussion. I am sure that it still needs work, a lot of work, but I have to move on some time.
I am not sure if it sounds uplifting or not.
I think it does, but if you can let me know what you think, whether it evokes an uplifting feeling or mood then that would help greatly.
Here is the audio
